One of the best parts of volunteering is getting to meet so many people. Some of the most fun is working with the young folks. Sometimes I run into enthusiastic and amusing teenagers.
I nearly fell over laughing during the St. Patrick's Day Parade in 05. Two boys followed around the horses to pick up the leavings. They were laughing hysterically as the scooped.
During the 06 Arizona Highland Games in Mesa I ran into a teen volunteer that had no community service paperwork. His response was that he had plenty of community service. He chose to volunteer because he always has fun.
Celtic events are some of the few that kids labeled apathetic break those views.

I have been participating to as many Celtic gatherings in AZ as I could during the past 2-3 years...at over 70 years old, having spent many years in upper management of associations, groups, gatherings, etc...from a few young boys in a farming group to International organizations...I'm wondering why we are trying to operate like one of most inefficient organizations in the world...and still trying to come up with a first-class product that we are all proud of, desire to share it with the world, & have fun at the same time...we have too many chiefs & not enough Indians...and too many tribes trying to do the same thing...only different...we need to channel our pride into one great organization, driven & supported by a multi-Celtic family coming from all the tribes...rc
Thank you for your interest. Considering I do not know which of the events you are speaking of, I cannot add any wisdom to your post.
The Arizona Celtic Cultural Association has not been formed to take the place of any of the organizations. We are a group of the leadership from each of the groups so that we can share our calendars. We also meet to share ideas and learn from each other's experiences.
It is our hope that we are on our way to resolving our inefficiencies through our meetings with each others. However, I've observed that nothing can solve such problems like experience.
If you have other ideas that you would like to offer to the group, I will be happy to assist. You are welcome to email me off the forum.
